Kingston MRI upgraded our existing Philips Achieva units to Philips’ D-Stream platform in 2017/2018. In 2019, we moved upgraded software to utilize Philips’ Compressed Sense technology, which greatly improves the speed of examinations, We have advanced capabilities of dedicated imaging of the brain and spine, joints such as knees and shoulders, abdomen, pelvis, and the entire vascular system, including the carotid arteries, aorta, renal arteries, and peripheral extremity vascular tree.
All Radiologists at Kingston MRI hold academic appointments at Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences, and are Staff Radiologists at Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals. Our Radiologists are dedicated to providing timely, high quality, and accurate interpretation services to patients in the entire Southeastern Ontario region and beyond.

Not all patients are able to receive an MRI scan. The Radiologist will determine this, but it is very important that all patients let us know if they have had any metallic implants including, but not limited to:
- Cardiac pacemaker
- Pacemaker wires
- Metal fragments in eyes
- Artificial heart valves
- Cerebral aneurysm clips
- Ventriculoperitoneal shunts
- Vascular stents
- Inferior vena cava umbrella or filter
- Chemotherapy pump
- Insulin pump
- Libre Monitoring Patch (or similar patch)
- Metallic ear implant
- Eye prothesis/facial prosthesis
- Magnetic implant
- Othopedic rods, screws, plates or nails
- Metallic shrapnel or bullet fragment
- Metallic embolization device
Because the strong magnetic fields can displace or disrupt the action of implanted metallic objects, people with cardiac pacemakers cannot be scanned and should not enter the MRI area. MRI also should not be used for people with metallic objects in their bodies such as inner ear (cochlear) implants, brain aneurysm clips, some artificial heart valves, older vascular stents, and recently placed artificial joints. Patients will be asked to sign a consent form confirming that none of the above issues apply before the study will be performed.
